Firebase backends designed around reads and rules

Krapton is a Firebase development company that builds and rescues apps running on Google’s Firebase platform: Cloud Firestore, Firebase Authentication, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, Hosting and Cloud Messaging. Firebase lets a small team ship a real-time, offline-capable app without running servers, but its tradeoffs show up later. Firestore bills per document read, so a chatty listener or an unbounded query becomes an invoice problem; it has no joins, so data must be shaped around the screens that read it; and Security Rules are the only thing standing between a public API key and your data. Our engineers design collections from access patterns, denormalize deliberately, write rules alongside unit tests in the Emulator Suite, and turn on App Check to block traffic that does not come from your app. Firebase is a weak fit for heavy relational reporting or complex transactions across many entities; for those we pair it with BigQuery exports or recommend Postgres via Firebase Data Connect or Supabase.

Firebase development services

  • Firestore data modeling

We model collections, subcollections and composite indexes around each screen’s queries, choose where to denormalize, and plan distributed counters or aggregation queries for hot documents.

  • Security rules and App Check

Rules are written per collection with helper functions, validated against request.auth and incoming data, covered by emulator tests in CI, and backed by App Check enforcement.

  • Cloud Functions and backend logic

Second-generation Cloud Functions handle triggers, scheduled jobs, webhooks and callable endpoints in TypeScript or Python, with idempotent handlers so retried events do not double-charge or double-send.

  • Authentication and user management

Firebase Authentication with email, phone, Google, Apple and SAML or OIDC providers, custom claims for roles, and multi-tenancy through Identity Platform when you serve business customers.

  • Messaging, Remote Config and Crashlytics

We set up FCM topics and targeted pushes, Remote Config flags for staged rollouts, and Crashlytics with Performance Monitoring so releases are measured on real devices.

  • Firebase migrations in and out

We move apps from Realtime Database to Firestore, consolidate projects, replace the retired Dynamic Links with App Links and Universal Links, or plan an exit to Postgres when Firebase no longer fits.

Why teams choose Krapton for Firebase

Senior engineers, fixed scope, and code you own — the things agencies promise and rarely deliver.

  • Read costs designed in

Listeners are scoped, queries are paginated with cursors, and bundles or caching serve shared data, so your Firestore bill tracks real users rather than inefficient screens.

  • Rules treated as code

Security Rules live in the repository, are deployed with the Firebase CLI from CI, and fail the build when an emulator test shows a user reading another user’s data.

  • Separate projects per environment

Development, staging and production run in separate Firebase projects with their own keys and rules, so a test script can never write into live customer data.

  • Clear view of lock-in

We document which parts of your app depend on Firebase-specific APIs and keep domain logic in your own modules, so a partial move to another backend stays possible.

How a Firebase project runs with Krapton

  1. 01

    Access pattern mapping

We list every screen and background job, the data each reads and writes, who may access it, and how often it changes.

  2. 02

    Model, rules, emulator

Collections, indexes and Security Rules are drafted together and tested in the Local Emulator Suite before any client code depends on them.

  3. 03

    Feature delivery

Client features and Cloud Functions ship in small increments to the staging project, with Crashlytics and logs checked after each release.

  4. 04

    Budgets and monitoring

We set Google Cloud budget alerts, usage dashboards and index reviews so a runaway query or function loop is caught early rather than at month end.

Firebase development: questions answered

What does a Firebase development company do?

It designs, builds and operates the Firebase side of your product. That covers Firestore or Realtime Database modeling, Security Rules, Authentication flows, Cloud Functions, push notifications, analytics and crash reporting, plus the client code in Flutter, React, Swift or Kotlin that talks to them. A good one also watches usage and billing, because Firebase architecture mistakes tend to surface first as cost, then as performance.

Is Firebase or Supabase the better choice for a new app?

It depends on your data. Firebase is stronger for mobile-first apps that need offline sync, push notifications, Crashlytics and Remote Config from one platform, with data that fits documents. Supabase gives you Postgres, SQL joins, row-level security and easier reporting, which suits relational business data. If you want Firebase tooling with relational data, Firebase Data Connect on Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL is now an option worth evaluating.

Why is our Firestore bill growing faster than our user base?

Usually because the app reads far more documents than users see. Common causes are real-time listeners left attached to whole collections, queries without limits, screens that re-fetch on every navigation, and Cloud Functions that trigger each other in loops. We trace reads per screen with the usage dashboard and Query Explain, then add pagination, narrower listeners, cached aggregates and function guards.

Can we move off Firebase later if we outgrow it?

Yes, but the effort depends on how tightly the app is coupled to Firebase APIs. Data can be exported from Firestore to Cloud Storage or BigQuery and transformed into relational tables, and Firebase Authentication users can be exported with their password hashes for import elsewhere. The harder part is client code full of direct SDK calls and logic hidden in Security Rules, which is why we keep a data access layer from the start.

How is the cost of Firebase development services worked out?

From scope and data complexity, not a fixed menu. The drivers are the number of platforms (web, iOS, Android), how relational your data is, the volume of Cloud Functions and third-party integrations such as payments or CRMs, compliance needs around personal data, whether an existing Firebase project must be cleaned up or migrated, and expected usage, which also shapes your Google Cloud bill.
