Astro development company

We build Astro websites for teams whose pages are mostly content: marketing sites, documentation and blogs that render to plain HTML, hydrate only the widgets that need it, and stay easy for editors to update through a headless CMS.

Astro for content-first websites that load fast

We are an Astro development company for organizations whose websites are mostly words, images and forms rather than application screens. Astro renders every page to HTML at build time or on the server and sends no client JavaScript by default; a framework component hydrates only when given a directive such as client:visible or client:idle. That islands model lets a product configurator in React or a search box in Svelte hydrate on its own while the rest of the page stays static. Content lives in type-checked content collections, loaded from Markdown, MDX or a headless CMS through the Content Layer, with Zod schemas catching a missing image or malformed date at build time instead of in production. Astro is less suited to dashboards and logged-in products where most of the screen is interactive and state is shared across routes; Next.js, SvelteKit or a client-rendered React app usually serves those better.

Astro development services

  • Marketing site builds

Component-based Astro marketing sites with Tailwind CSS or scoped styles, responsive images from astro:assets, sitemap and canonical tags, and forms posting to Astro Actions or your CRM’s API.

  • Documentation with Starlight

Product and API documentation built on Starlight, Astro’s docs framework, with built-in Pagefind search, sidebar navigation, internationalized pages and MDX components for code samples.

  • Headless CMS integration

Content from Sanity, Contentful, Storyblok, Payload or headless WordPress pulled through Content Layer loaders, with preview routes for editors and webhook-triggered rebuilds when they publish.

  • Gatsby and WordPress migration

Sites moved off Gatsby, WordPress themes or Next.js pages that no longer need a full React runtime, with URLs preserved, 301 maps for anything renamed, and structured data carried across.

  • Server rendering and APIs

On-demand routes with prerender set to false, middleware for auth and redirects, server islands for personalized fragments, and adapters for Vercel, Netlify, Cloudflare or a Node server.

  • Performance and SEO audits

Existing Astro sites checked for oversized islands, client:load used where client:visible would do, unoptimized images, render-blocking fonts and missing metadata, with fixes measured against Core Web Vitals field data.

Why teams choose Krapton for Astro

Senior engineers, fixed scope, and code you own — the things agencies promise and rarely deliver.

  • Islands chosen deliberately

Each interactive component gets the lightest directive that works, and anything that can be plain HTML plus a small script stays that way instead of becoming a framework island.

  • Editors kept in mind

Content models are designed with the people who publish: clear CMS fields, live previews, reusable blocks, and schema validation that explains a failed build in plain language.

  • Honest framework advice

If your roadmap points toward a logged-in app, Krapton says so and suggests Next.js or SvelteKit, or an Astro site beside the app, rather than stretching Astro too far.

  • SEO details handled in code

Canonical URLs, hreflang, Open Graph images, JSON-LD and XML sitemaps are generated from content data, so a new page cannot ship without its metadata.

How a Astro project runs with Krapton

  1. 01

    Content and URL inventory

We crawl the current site, export every URL with its traffic and backlinks, and map content types to collections before any template is designed.

  2. 02

    Component and schema design

Layouts, Astro components and Zod schemas are built together, so design tokens, content fields and page templates stay in sync from the start.

  3. 03

    Build and preview deploys

Each pull request gets a preview deployment on Vercel, Netlify or Cloudflare, with Lighthouse CI and link checks running before editors review content.

  4. 04

    Launch and redirects

Cutover includes the 301 map, Search Console checks, sitemap submission and a post-launch crawl, followed by optional support for Astro upgrades and new templates.

Astro development: questions answered

Which kinds of websites should an Astro development company build?

Mostly content-heavy websites: marketing sites, documentation portals, blogs, landing pages and e-commerce storefronts that sit in front of Shopify or another commerce API. Krapton builds the Astro components and layouts, connects your CMS, adds interactive islands where users need them, sets up deployment and preview environments, and leaves your team with a site editors can update without a developer for routine changes.

Is Astro a poor fit for some projects?

Yes: skip it when most of your product is an interactive application. Dashboards, editors, real-time collaboration and apps with complex client state shared across many routes are better served by frameworks designed around data mutations and client navigation. Astro can still host the public marketing site beside such an app, which is a common split: Astro on the root domain, the application on an app subdomain.

Can a Gatsby or WordPress site move to Astro without losing search traffic?

Yes, provided URLs get the most care: content moves first, templates second. Gatsby Markdown or MDX usually moves into content collections with light changes; WordPress content either stays in WordPress as a headless CMS or is exported into Markdown or a new CMS. Every existing URL is mapped, redirects are tested before DNS changes, and rankings and crawl errors are watched in Search Console after launch.

How fast are Astro sites, and what slows them down?

Astro sites are fast by default because most pages ship as HTML with little or no JavaScript, but a few habits erode that. The usual culprits are client:load on heavy React islands, large unoptimized hero images, third-party tag managers and chat widgets, and web fonts loaded without preloading or a fallback. We profile with Lighthouse and real-user Core Web Vitals, then fix the biggest contributor first.

Why do quotes for Astro development services vary between projects?

Quotes vary with template variety and integrations, not raw page count, because hundreds of articles on one layout take less work than a few bespoke landing pages. Beyond that, estimates reflect the CMS choice and how much content must be migrated or cleaned, interactive features such as search, filtering or gated content, multilingual requirements, CRM and marketing tool integrations, and how many redirects an existing site needs to keep its search traffic.
